One night, sitting around the dinner table, my brother informed us that he had signed up for an Alaskan cruise on Royal Caribbean Lines. Everyone around the table thought it would be a fun idea to do a family trip. After months of planning, 27 of us known as The Alaskan Cruisers 2022 boarded the Quantum of the Seas for a 7 day cruise starting from Seattle, WA.
One of the conditions for boarding the ship was that we had to show a negative Covid test. Dutifully, we all took the tests and it showed negative. Little did I know that I was exposed and had the virus but it didn’t appear when I boarded.
One day later…
Positive! The dreaded word to hear. After testing positive for Covid by the ship’s medical doctor, I was whisked away, like in monopoly, do not pass go, do not collect $200, head straight to jail, in this case isolation. For the first three days as I recouped it was a novelty. Ah, the peace and quiet, the solitude, living on my own time clock, wearing pajamas all day long and ordering food from Room Service at all hours. By the third day, I felt better and boredom set in. I polished off the entire 6 season of Downton Abbey. Each day as the ship pulled into port, I watched my loving family through my porthole and that sustained me. Always cheering me up with their laughter, gifts and smiles through my double paned window. On the second to the last day, I got a roommate. My hubby Wendell came down with Covid and joined me. I had company!
