The Danube River Cruise – June 2019

We cruised for 7 nights on the Danube River with AmaWaterway’s ship, the AmaSonata. But first, by coincidence, we joined another group of Hawaii friends in Regensberg, Germany. They were at the tail end of their cruise which started in Budapest. We were literally two ships passing in the night. Through some unforseen incident, they had to disembark in Regensberg. We were so glad to meet up and hear their stories of the places we were going to. All eight of us sat down for bratwurst and beer at the famous Wurstkuchl (Sausage Kitchen). From there, we parted ways and started our cruise in Vilshofen. Along the way, we stopped in Passau, Linz, Vienna, Bratislava, Salzburg, and Cesky Krumlov.

First stop is Passau, Germany. The cruise lines offers a variety of complimentary shore excursions: walking, biking or hiking.

Vienna is a beautiful city too. Easy to walk to the center right from the ship. In Vienna, we had to try their Sacher Torte at Cafe Demel, made famous by the Viennese royal family. They are also known for their Lipizzaner stallions but I didn’t have a chance to see the show.
